We probably don’t think beauty products go bad like food items but actually they do.Ignorantly we think our foundation, lipstick ,lotion ,powder and their likes never expire,we think they last forever but No they don’t (we only wish ). Ever wondered why your creams turn black suddenly or your lip gloss losses it’s thickness and becomes smelly ,well now you know it’s because it’s expired.

HOW DO I FIND OUT IF THE PRODUCT HAS AN EXPIRY DATE

Some of us might ask how do you know the expiration dates ,it’s not like it’s written on their packs like milk cartoons, well it is.Most products have it written on the packs or even on the body of the products like the picture below,so make sure to check the packs to be sure when to toss it.

Some beauty products don’t have this expiration period logo on them but they still do expire, this Mini chart will help you

LIQUID FOUNDATION
When to Toss: If it has separated into layers or the color has lightened, it’s time to buy a new one!
Tip: Keep makeup out of sunlight. UV rays can destroy preservatives, which will make your products spoil faster.
LIQUID POLISH
When to Toss: If the polish is extra greasy or has separated into layers and won’t blend after a quick shake, it’s time to let it go!
BLUSH/POWDERS
When to Toss: Expired powders tend to be more dry and flaky than new ones.
PERFUMES
When to Toss: Perfumes that are starting to smell different or lighten in color are definitely expired!
Tip: Bright lights make perfumes oxidize, changing their chemicals to smell musty, faster. Store them in cool, dark places to make them last longer!
LOTION
When to Toss: A change in color or scent is a dead giveaway for expired lotion!
Tip: Go for a bottle with a pump rather than one in a jar, which is less prone to airborne bacteria and will last longer.

NB: if you’re a makeup artist make sure to clean your brush after every use and for those of us with personal makeup bags careful on how you share your products with people and keep them clean too to prevent bacteria and germs .
